Art Evaluation on final piece

Art Evaluation on our Final Piece
Our task was to make a piece of recycled art work to show in the Peacock Gallery, we had 3 weeks to complete this, to show to our family, friends and public who were invited to look at what we have been doing this term.

What inspired my final piece?
My inspiration on my art piece, of two hands coming out of a recycled book and drawing the recycled symbol, was influenced by my 3D projecting form which I had done a couple of weeks earlier. I had made a theme to do with a recycled themed book, to create a single hand holding an apple. This influenced me into thinking of a piece of art to do with a hand, so I developed this idea into making two hands which were drawing.

How I made my outcome?
I made my outcome by improving my first 3D projection form hand, into a more developed and realistic looking hand. I did this by getting a pair of old washing- up gloves, stuffing them with newspaper, then using paper- mach’e to cover up the yellow glove. This was a easier way of making a hand, because the original shape of a hand was already done for me, as stuffing the glove made a perfect replica of a realistic hand.
The hardest part of making my outcome was cutting out the pages to place my two drawing hands into. This was difficult as I struggled to cut through more than 3 pages at a time and this process took 1 hour for each hole.

What modifications I had to make when constructing my final piece?
At the start of making my final piece I thought everything was going to be alright and finished by the right time, but I forgot about how I was going to stand my outcome up. In the end I had to bring my piece home and I luckily found an old dinner mat and a CD holder. I decided to use these two products by a mixture of screws and a hot glue gun, to hold my final piece up as a whole structure.

What I think of my outcome and what improvements I would make?
I am really pleased with my final outcome, as I have spent a lot of time on it over the last few weeks and I am pleased with the way it will look and stand out in the gallery. I think it my best and most successful piece of art I have done in this term and in Maiden Erlegh School.
If I had to make any improvements, I would probably neaten up my paper- mach’e so every single piece of newspaper is stuck down, and carefully use the hot glue gun so no glue is on show on or around my final piece.
